Executive Summary – EBay owned Skype. Skype was based in the EU. Now it has been sold to an American entity name Silver Lake. The Skye encryption was a headache for law enforcement around the world and several countries like Russian Federation and China were blocking this due to encryption concerns. Getting the encryption key was a monumental headache for law enforcement. By the time they got the key, if they got it, the information could be out of date.
Watch the new buyer change this and impose more privacy invasive practices and see a lot of cases in court pop up all of a sudden with evidence gotten relating to Skype chats and phone calls. Skype will probably not let people sign up anonymously for a free account. We’ll see.
