Executive Summary – Airplanes are not a difficult asset protect in that they are portable. The key is to keep the ownership records as untraceable as possible. Using an anonymous Panama Bearer Share Corporation to own the title to the plane is a good idea. Such an anonymous corporation should pay for the plane by wire from a bank secrecy country. If you are financing or leasing then those records are a vulnerability. Be careful when buying fuel and services to use a corporate credit card that does not trace back to your name. Same with insurance. Pay by wire from corporate bank account in a bank secrecy country.
Type of Plane – The type of airplane can be crucial to your privacy. Private jets like Lear, Bombardier etc attract ten times more attention than aircraft that is used commonly by the airlines for commercial flights. Today used airliners are available on the market cheap. Sure the maintenance is higher but the acquisition costs are way down. When registering your plane to an anonymous corporation use a name that sounds like a major international corporation located in some country so as to make it easier to dismiss the plane as belonging to a major corporation. Do not paint any decorative names or logos on the plane.
Jurisdiction – If you have financial enemies in a certain country keep the plane out of that country just to make sure. Charter or rent a plane for that flight. If you charter out the plane make sure you know it is not going into any country you have financial enemies in. Pays to be careful with an expensive asset.
Liens – You can always have the plane in the name of one corporation and file a lien on the title of the plane in the country of registration using another anonymous corporation. This will cloud the title some removing the plane from being a target if you have financial enemies. Remember if your enemies see you get on or off the jet they may get interested in the plane as the subject of a financial attack. Extra protection does not hurt.
The Crew – If someone wants information on who the owner is the crew can be approached and offered bribes. It would be easy for them to get copies of your passport. Having the crew lie detector tested from time to time can be beneficial as a deterrent. Do have thorough background investigations run on the crew as well.
