Executive Summary – Mexico has a simply awful set of gun control laws. It is very hard for a Mexican citizen to get permission to buy a gun. Generally they can only get one gun and nothing resembling a centerfire assault rifle. A person can go to jail in Mexico for merely having one round of .22 cal ammunition in his car or on his person without registration of a gun to match it. Look how well it is working. They have bound the hands of the law abiding citizens and the criminal gangs are thriving big time. The gangs have assault weapons that fire full auto, grenades, 400mm grenades that fire from assault rifle under barrels, RPG's and other weapons that are of course against the law. Mexico is a classical textbook example of why gun control laws do not work.
Criminals about to commit armed robbery, kidnapping, murder, transportation of massive amounts of narcotics cannot be bothered with the thought of an illegal gun causing them to have an extra charge if caught. They are more worried about defending themselves so they do not get killed in the course of committing the crime. Is that so hard to understand. Congratulations Mexico you have made your law abiding citizens defenseless and allowed the drug gangs to thrive. Now your law abiding citizens life in fear of being shot down by criminal gangsters and they have no way of defending themselves.
If this is not bad enough, Calderon tries to blame the gun problem on what he calls loose gun sales inside the USA near the Mexican border. Absolutely absurd argument lacking logic or facts. He even files a lawsuit against Arizona for trying to keep his home grown criminals impersonating illegal aliens out of Arizona. Imagine where the people living near the border would be today if they could not get assault weapons to protect themselves from the invading criminals. Does Calderon want the people near the border defenseless against his criminal invaders? Why? Good question.
Calderon talked about legalizing all drugs in all quantities which was a good thing. Then he went to see Obama and well we hear nothing further about legalizing drugs from Calderon anymore. What we get back instead is a cry to ban assault weapons in the USA and to stop being discriminatory regarding stopping illegals from entering and engaging in crimes in the USA. Do you think Calderon sold out to Obama and they just might be working in collusion against “we the people” ?
Conclusion – Anytime you get into a gun control argument use Mexico as your first example of what happens with gun control. Having drugs illegal and tight control gets you right where Mexico is.
