Executive Summary - On Jan 4th 2010 a US citizen entered a Federal Courthouse building with a concealed shotgun. He then proceeded to shoot a security guard and a US Marshall. The guard died, the Marshall is in the hospital. The gunman was shot and killed by law enforcement officials.
Witnesses say 20-30 shots were fired. This is a lot of shots It would be unusual for the gunman to reload a shotgun in the heat of the battle since he would be outnumbered. This means the law enforcement officials and security guards in the building were doing the shooting for the most part. Sounds like they were scared and needed to be spending more time at the range. That was a lot of shots. Now maybe we are not getting the whole story. Maybe the gunman had other weapons, accomplices or who knows?
Implications – The US government operates their security in a reactionary mode. They wait for bad things to happen and then modify security to suit. This gunman got into the building where the security screening apparatus is and opened fire. I expect they will try to create some sort of barrier to contain the possible future shooters so as to keep the bullets from bouncing around in the lobby and elevator staging areas of the Federal buildings.
I would expect more stringent searches, body pat down searches etc. They will probably station one or two guards outside the building to observe and screen people entering. If suspicious they will pull people off to the side and interrogate them or search them. The idea would be to contain the trouble outside of the building or stop problem people form entering.
Discussion – The past year the media reported a number of similar incidents. USA citizens just had enough of the police state, judges who do not follow the law, unscrupulous lawyers, criminal banksters etc. They explode and grab a gun and start shooting the police or other authority figures. You will see much more of these in 2010. This will fray the nerves of the police and they will take it out on the populace more and more.
This sort of individual is referred to as a lone wolf by law enforcement. They can generally get no intel on such people since they are not in any group or organization. All of a sudden they just pop up out of nowhere and start shooting. They are usually effective and kill the authority figures they go after and usually die at the scene. Interestingly enough the media is saying threats against federal judges are at an all time high having grown multiple times in recent years. There were 1587 threats against Federal Judges and prosecutors during 2007 and 2008. That is a lot. I expect the 2009 figures to be through the roof. It is also speculated that 25% of the threats received are not being reported. Their answer is not a constitutional government but instead more security for those violating the constitutional rights of those who pay their salaries.
The propaganda is that they can do no wrong. During 2008 the US Marshall service had a budget of $344 million dollars to protect federal judges and prosecutors. One would think if this money was not spent on their protection they might start following the laws of the land.
