Half of Kansas City Schools to Close - The Kansas City School Board is closing almost half of their schools to stay afloat. Twenty-nine out of 61 schools will be closing at the end of the school year. They will eliminate 700 out of 3000 jobs. Here we go.
New York Fire Department Threat 1000 layoffs and closing 62 Fire Companies - The impact on the city will be awful. They are also talking of shutting down their external alarm boxes that people without access to a phone can use to report an incident. Let’s see if they go through with this. As local governments run out of money we will be seeing more and more of this sort of thing.
Los Angeles County lying off 4,000 – This is just the start and more may come. Older employees may have to take pay cuts and perform low-level jobs.
Labor Dept. Says 36,000 jobs lost in Feb. 2010 – So much for the recovery. They cannot even get the figure to level off at zero. They are years away from any recovery and there are no indicators to indicate a recovery is in sight. In other words recovery needs to be based on something and this something is sorely absent.
